Perseverance and collaboration: How a new clinical trial aims to determine whether sex matters when matching blood products to patients

ABOUT US

Who We Are

The Canadian Transfusion Trials Group (CTTG) is a national initiative designed to promote collaboration and excellence in Transfusion Medicine research. The primary goal of the CTTG is to accelerate the conduct of pan-Canadian high-quality clinical trials to improve transfusion practice.

Funding

CTTG network funding will be used to support the infrastructure for a network across Canada by establishing a cohesive and diverse transfusion medicine research community. This research community will support investigators with the development of trial protocols and grant submissions, provide central support for data management and biostatistics, and provide streamlined support for best practices in research ethics applications, contracts, and regulatory documents. Network funding for CTTG will also support the creation of a multicentre “vein-to-vein” transfusion data platform to support clinical trials and generate new hypotheses, modelling for demand forecasting, monitoring for changes in transfusion practice, and assessing impacts of blood production modifications on patient outcomes.

Investigators

Investigators leading CTTG-supported clinical studies will seek partnerships and funding to enable the execution of research themes. The CTTG will bring together a highly motivated group of investigators and partners from across Canada and internationally. This forward-thinking initiative sets the stage for accelerating evidence-based transfusion practice with the ultimate goal of improving transfusion care for patients worldwide.
